Leo club of Horizon Campus leads the fight against malnutrition with project “Subhikshaya”
View(s):The “Subhikshaya” project was initiated by the Leo Club of Horizon Campus to address the issue of malnutrition, among the society.The first phase of project Subhikshaya, conducted on December 16, 2024, at the Kesbewa, Hedigama Maternity and Child Clinic, was focused on pregnant women.
An awareness session was conducted by a midwife, and essential insights into nutritional requirements and affordable, nutrient-dense dietary options were provided to the participants.Leaflets and banners were also distributed and handed over, ensuring that the message was extended beyond the session. Food items such as steamed grain boxes and sago porridge were also provided to the attendees.
These nutrient-rich meals were selected to showcase how simple, locally available ingredients could be used to meet dietary needs during pregnancy. The “Subhikshaya” project’s first phase successfully addressed the nutritional needs of pregnant women by creating awareness about the importance of balanced diets during pregnancy.
