Senuja, Yenula shine as St. Joseph’s dominate
Senuja Wakunugoda and Yenula Dewthusa shone with centuries as St. Joseph’s College dominated proceedings against St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa, securing a first-innings win in the Under-19 inter-school cricket encounter concluded at Darley Road yesterday.
Senuja hammered a quick-fire 156 off 148 balls, featuring 14 boundaries and seven sixes, while Yenula scored an unbeaten century with six boundaries and four sixes. Yenula went on to share a 127-run partnership for the sixth wicket with Rishma Amarasinghe, helping St. Joseph’s post a formidable 371 for 5 before declaring, in reply to St. Sebastian’s total of 233.
Unbeaten centuries by Thareen Sanketh and Savi Fernando, who together added a massive unbroken stand of 194 runs for the sixth wicket, was the highlight of the second day’s play in St. Peter’s College’s first-innings win over Royal College at Reid Avenue.
