Ministry issues circular on distributing uniform materials
View(s):The Education Ministry has announced guidelines to be followed when issuing free uniform materials to students in government schools and pirivenas, to prevent irregularities.
Teachers in charge of issuing uniform materials to students should get signatures from students in Grades 6-13, while for students in Grades 1-5, a parent or guardian should sign and accept the uniform materials, a circular issued by the MoE stated.
The signed documents should be filed for audit purposes.
Sri Lanka’s school uniform fabric requirement for 2025 was gifted by the People’s Republic of China.
The circular said that it is the responsibility of the principal, divisional directors of education, zonal directors of education and provincial directors of education to provide uniforms to every child in their province, and warned of disciplinary action if there is any action outside the laid out arrangements.
“It is the expectation of the MoE and the government to provide school uniform materials on time to all students studying in government and government aided schools and to all student bhikkus, seela mathas and lay students studying in approved pirivenas. It is the responsibility of every officer in your province, zone, division and school to give keen attention and execute the responsibility in this connection as a delay in distributing uniform materials will hinder the achievement of the said objectives,” the circular issued by the Secretary to the MoE Nalaka Kaluwewe said.
