Lyceum Gampaha swimmers emerge overall runners-up at 29th ISSC

Lyceum International School, Gampaha became the overall runners-up at the 29th International School Swimming Championship, organised by Asian International School and held at the Sugathadasa Swimming Pool Complex. The school earned a total of 963 points and set up eight new meet records, also winning two age group championships. The two-day event saw 21 international schools and 874 swimmers participating.

In the Under-14 Boys category, Dulaksha Ganidu set new meet records in the 100m and 200m freestyle. In the Under-14 Girls category, Heshara de Silva set a new record in the 100m backstroke. In the Under-16 Boys category, Vinuka Dias set a record in the 50m breaststroke, while in the Under-16 Girls category, Yunaya Perera set a record in the 100m freestyle. Yunaya and her teammates, Anuththara Jayasundara, Induwary Wickramarathne, and Shenushi Vihanga, also set a new record in the 4x50m freestyle relay. The Under-16 Girls’ 4x50m medley relay team, including Kithumi Nandasoma, Pavani Galagedara, Shenushi Vihanga, and Yunaya Perera, also set a new meet record.

Record-breaking swimmers propel Lyceum Gampaha to second place

In individual championships, Dulaksha Ganidu was the Under-14 Boys champion, and Yunaya Perera was the Under-16 Girls champion.

There were outstanding individual performances in various categories. In the Under-10 Girls category, Johansa Aththanayaka won first place in the 100m freestyle and second in the 200m IM and 50m butterfly. Anuki Mihindukulasuriya won second in the 50m backstroke. In the Under-10 Boys category, Anusas Konara won first place in the 50m breaststroke, while Mihin Rupasinghe earned second place in the 200m IM and 50m butterfly. Akein Perera won third in the 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke, and Ometh Pathirana earned second in the 50m freestyle.

In the Under-12 Girls category, Visakya Dias earned second place in the 50m breaststroke, and Yuliana Perera won third in the 100m freestyle. In the Under-12 Boys category, Lesandu Imbulpitikanda won first in the 50m breaststroke and third in the 50m backstroke. Ayuth Perera placed third in the 200m IM.

In the Under-14 Girls category, Thinuli Sethlini won second place in the 50m freestyle and third in the 200m IM. Heshara de Silva dominated with wins in the 50m and 100m backstroke and second place in the 100m freestyle. Anjali Sathsarani won second place in the 200m freestyle and third in the 50m and 100m butterfly. Govindi Darmawardhana earned third in the 200m freestyle.

In the Under-14 Boys category, Dulaksha Ganidu shone with wins in the 50m butterfly, 200m freestyle, and 100m freestyle. Minuka Mihindukulasuriya earned third in the 100m and 50m backstroke.

In the Under-16 Girls category, Yunaya Perera won first place in the 100m, 50m, and 200m freestyle. Shenushi Vihanga claimed first in the 200m IM, 100m backstroke, and 50m backstroke. Pavani Galagedara won first in the 50m breaststroke and third in the 100m breaststroke. Kithumi Nandasoma earned second in the 100m backstroke, 100m butterfly, and 200m IM. Induwary Wickramarathne earned third in the 50m butterfly, and Anuththara Jayasundara won third in the 200m freestyle.

In the Under-16 Boys category, Vinuka Dias won first in the 50m and 100m breaststroke, while Mithula Himanka earned second in the 50m freestyle. In the Under-20 Girls category, Siluni Nandasoma earned second in the 100m freestyle and third in the 200m freestyle.

Lyceum Gampaha also excelled in the relay events. The Under-10 Boys team, including Akein Perera, Anuhas Konara, Mihin Rupasinghe, and Ometh Pathirana, won first place in the 4x50m medley relay. The Under-12 Boys team, including Ravija Weerasinghe, Lesandu Imbulpitikanda, Ayuth Perera, and Senith Jayasekara, also won first place in their 4x50m medley relay. The Under-14 Boys team, with Minuka Mihindukulasuriya, Disanda Dulnitha, Dulaksha Ganidu, and Saddev Ariyawansha, also won the 4x50m medley relay. The Under-14 Girls team, with Heshara de Silva, Isali Ariyasena, Anjali Sathsarani, and Thinuli Sethlini, took first in the 4x50m medley relay.

The Under-16 Girls team, consisting of Kithumi Nandasoma, Pavani Galagedara, Shenushi Vihanga, and Yunaya Perera, won first place in the 4x50m medley relay, setting a new meet record. In the freestyle relay events, the Under-10 Boys team, including Mihin Rupasinghe, Akein Perera, Ometh Pathirana, and Visula Hasanusara, won first place, while the Under-12 Girls team, including Visakya Dias, Siheli Liyanage, Yuliana Perera, and Praneepa de Silva, won first place in their relay event.
