Trinity’s Dimantha Mahavithana hits unbeaten double ton
Rain and bad light marred the second day of the Under-19 inter-school cricket matches, forcing early stoppages to most games. Despite the interruptions, Trinity College’s Dimantha Mahavithana stole the spotlight with a brilliant unbeaten 201, featuring 15 boundaries and two sixes, against St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa.
He built three crucial partnerships — a 159-run stand for the fourth wicket with Vathila Udara (85), a 77-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Dinal Fernando, and a 51-run stand for the sixth wicket with Sethmika Seneviratne. Trinity, resuming from 339 for 4, declared at 400 for 6 but St. Sebastian’s managed to face only seven overs before rain halted play.
Elsewhere, St. Peter’s, Wesley, Prince of Wales, and St. Servatius, Matara, secured first-innings wins over Nalanda, S. Thomas’, St. Anthony’s Katugastota, and St. Benedict’s, respectively. Zahira College claimed an innings victory against Galahitiyawa Central.
