Ethics Education: Shaping Lives at Royal Institute International School
View(s):At Royal Institute International School, education goes beyond textbooks—it’s about nurturing values that shape character and guide students toward becoming responsible, thoughtful leaders. One subject that truly embodies this philosophy is Ethics. By focusing not just on academic knowledge, but on practical lessons in good behaviour, kindness, and moral thinking, Ethics fosters the growth of well-rounded individuals.
By this initiative, we aim to instill a strong moral foundation in our students, equipping them with the skills to navigate complex ethical dilemmas with integrity and compassion. Our Ethics programme encourages critical thinking, empathy, and a sense of social responsibility, empowering students to make decisions that positively impact their communities and the world. At Royal Institute, we believe that developing good character is as important as academic excellence, and through this approach, we prepare our students to become exemplary global citizens.
A Student’s Perspective: Raaidha Ifras, Grade 5 (Cambridge), Girls’ School
“I want to share my experience of how we work during our Ethics period. When we first started Ethics as a subject, we got our textbook. When I opened mine, I noticed it was different from other subject books.
What caught my attention right away were the simple stories with a moral lesson. I read the stories one by one and quickly understood what the subject was about. Our Ethics teacher also gave us a short introduction to the subject.
Ethics helps us learn good qualities, behave well, think positively, and be mindful. This subject is not just about learning—it’s about practicing these values in daily life. The good habits we learn here will stay with us forever. At the start, our teacher explained what we would do in Ethics. Apart from learning from the textbook, we also keep a “Good Deeds Book,” which is my favourite part.
In it, we write about the good things we do each week. One time, I cleaned and organized my bedroom, took before-and-after pictures, and added them to my book. My teacher appreciated it and showed the pictures to the whole class. From that day on, I wanted to keep my Good Deeds Book neat and interesting.
Another thing I love is the community project we do every term. This term, we organized a storytelling session for younger students. We asked our teacher if we could act out the stories while telling them, and she agreed! We picked two moral stories, practiced them as plays, and performed on the school stage.
The younger kids really enjoyed it, just like we enjoyed performing. After the plays, we held a Q&A session about the stories. While working on the plays, we learned a lot about teamwork and became closer as a group. I really enjoy learning Ethics, especially the community projects. They inspire me, and I can’t wait for the next one!”
The Ethics programme at Royal Institute continues to inspire students to embrace values that last a lifetime. Looking ahead, the school remains committed to fostering moral growth and meaningful experiences for every child.
