The Weeknd postpones release of new album

The Weeknd has postponed the release of his new album ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’ until 31st January, which was originally planned for 24th January. The Canadian artist took the decision out of concern and respect for the people of Los Angeles County hit badly by the wildfires in California. He has now fixed the date of the album release to 31st January. He has also decided to cancel his concert which was to be held on 25th January at the Rose Bowl stadium in Pasadena, California. Reports on social media say The Weeknd’s publicist Kathryn Frazier lost her home in the wildfire.

Music industry supports Los Angeles wildfire victims


Pop star Charli XCX has called on luxury fashion brands that would normally send her items to donate clothes to those who have lost everything in the Los Angeles wildfire. Meanwhile Beyonce has made a donation of $2.5 million and the heavy metal band Metallic has donated $500,000 to various charity funds in California. In another development MusiCares the charity arm the Grammys and Recording Academy has been helping many people from the industry hit by the wildfires, estimated to be over 1000.        

‘Who’ by the South Korean artist Jimin leaps into the charts


The UK singles chart top 10 portrayed the slow pace of movement following the New Year festivities barring the one song ‘Who’ by the South Korean artist Jimin. This week the track took a huge leap to return back into the top 10 from 64 to No.5. The K pop song was originally released in 2024 debuted in the top 10 at No. 4 back in August. The weeks that followed spelled a downward trend for the song. Within 17 weeks it disappeared after No. 75. Last week like many popular of the previous year ‘Who’ appeared on the chart at 64. In total the song has 19 weeks of chart life. The hit is the second UK top hit for 29 year old Jimin after ‘Like Crazy’ which peaked at No.8 in 2023. ‘Who’ is the third single to be taken of Jimin’s album ‘Muse’.

Ed Sheeran sets up foundation for musicians facing challenges
Ed Sheeran has set up the Ed Sheeran Foundation to meet the aspirations of musicians facing challenges of inequality in music education in the UK. Over 12,000 young people will benefit from Sheeran’s foundation as it drives to promote top quality music education by improving access to instruments, performance opportunities in the industry. Sheeran’s generosity has already commenced in several major UK cities such as Cardiff, Coventry, Edinburgh and Belfast.
