In a world often divided by conflict, Haadia Galely is set on a path of hope and unity. Her work is all about fostering connections and shared understanding. From the Muslim Choral Ensemble (MCE) to Voices for Peace, her latest initiative is a Unity Tour at the Colombo National Museum next Sunday, January 26.

The Unity Tour is more than a simple tour of the Colombo National Museum, rather it’s designed to promote harmony and connections. “The whole event is to unify, to bring people together, apart from the historical value and know our history and our culture,” Haadia explains.

Unity Tour at the Colombo National Museum

Participants will explore the rich history of the museum in smaller groups under the guidance of three historians and museum officials -Sanjeewani Vidyarathne and Deepika Bandaranaike (Senior Education Officers) and Malcom Weerasinghe (Development Officer and History Special). Reflective talks, refreshments and Q&A sessions are all on the schedule. Deemanka Jayakody is curating the event.

Alongside unification, art is also an important aspect for Haadia. She sees art as an essential component of existence that penetrates every activity. This perspective is evident in connection to the museum and particularly with Arasi Marikar Wapchie Marikar, who was instrumental in its creation. Marikar incidentally was also responsible for building several other heritage buildings in Colombo such as the General Post Office in Colombo and the Old Town Hall in Pettah.

Throughout the Unity Tour, she encourages visitors to view the museum as an artistic creation that combines architectural design with cultural relevance. Those who would like to sign up for the Museum tour on January 26 from 10 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. can reach her directly at haadia100@gmail.com. It will be a first come, first serve basis, as only 60 seats are available.
