Royal in narrow escape
Royal College denied Trinity College an outright victory, forcing a hard-fought draw in their Under-19 inter-school cricket match concluded at Reid Avenue yesterday. Trailing by 118 runs on the first innings, Royal found themselves in deep trouble in their second innings, reeling at 99 for 5.
The situation worsened when two quick wickets fell for the addition of just three runs, leaving the team in peril. However, a resolute knock from Isula Geeganage (36 not out) salvaged the game and ensured the hosts avoided defeat.

Earlier, Trinity posted an imposing total of 305 for 6, thanks to a fine 119 from the in-form opener Dimantha Mahavithana, who followed up his double century from last week with another commanding performance. Dinal Fernando also contributed with a solid half century to strengthen the visitors’ innings.
In other matches, outright victories were registered by St. Anne’s College, Kurunegala, who triumphed over Tissa Central, Kalutara, and Madampa Central, who defeated Lyceum International School, Nugegoda. Meanwhile, St. Peter’s College, St. Joseph’s College, St. Servatius’ College, Matara, and St. Aloysius’ College, Galle, secured first-innings wins in their respective encounters.
