Two Lankan gems hold Guinness World Records
View(s):A Lankan gem dealer became the first to obtain two Guinness World Records for two gemstones. Hailing from a family well known in the gemstone business community, he (name withheld for security reasons) explained that one of the gemstones which held the Guinness World Record had been in possession of his family for generations. He added that his father who had been in the gem business for 50 years had the natural black star Sapphire from the 1970s, which he inherited.
This gemstone was unique, he said, as it currently holds the title of “World’s Largest Natural Black Star Sapphire”, also known as – “The Black Star of Eva”.
The world’s largest natural black star sapphire, unearthed in Sri Lanka, weighs in at 3621.35 carats (724.27 grams). The black sapphire was unearthed from Elahara.
The other gem stone which also holds the Guinness World Record was a gem unearthed from Madagascar, which he purchased from a local gem dealer in 2020. The gemstone holds the Guinness World Record for being the “World’s Largest Natural Green Beryl Cat’s Eye” also known as the “Eye of Hope”. Together the gem stones go as the Guinness star and crescent which symbolise peace.
The world’s largest natural green beryl cat’s eye weighs in at 854.95 carats (170.99 grams). He added that both gemstones are valued between 500 and 550 USD. (KW)
