Protesting SDOs seek President’s intervention
View(s):School development officers (SDO) protested this week opposite the Colombo Fort railway station demanding that they be integrated into the state teachers’ service as they have worked in government schools for more than five years..
The protest was organised by the All Ceylon School Development Officers Union (ACSDOU) and about 50 officers took part in the protest.
A spokesman claimed that 16,000 of their officers have been teaching in state schools for at least five years and are entitled to be recruited as teachers.
Union leader Dinidu Bandara, said they have regularly brought up the issues with the respective governments without any solution and the NPP members had promised to take up the issue.
He called on President Anura Dissanayake to intervene in the issue and provide a solution.
A heavy police guard was deployed around the protest venue.
