Roshen, Movin propel BRC as SSC stare down at second loss
Roshen Silva and Movin Subasinghe stole the spotlight with scintillating unbeaten centuries, propelling BRC into a commanding position against SSC at the end of the second day’s play in the SLC Major Club three-day cricket tournament at the BRC ground yesterday.
After skittling SSC out for a paltry 116, BRC, declared after reaching a mammoth 340 for 6 wickets. The innings was anchored by Silva’s classy 105, studded with six boundaries, and Subasinghe’s blazing 56-ball unbeaten hundred, featuring 11 sixes and four fours.
Silva’s innings was pivotal, as he forged two crucial partnerships—an 85-run stand for the fifth wicket with Diniru Abeywickramasinghe and an unbroken stand of 138 runs for the seventh wicket with Subasinghe.
Faced with a daunting task of erasing the deficit of 224 runs, SSC stumbled to 108 for 4 in their second innings, leaving them still 116 runs short of avoiding an innings defeat as they head into the final day.
Meanwhile half centuries from Minod Bhanuka and Chamindu Wijesinghe powered CCC to 301 after resuming from their overnight score of 100 for 3 against Moors SC. In response, Moors faced 20 overs and closed the day on 77 for 4. Matches will continue today.
