Raft of MoUs between state and foreign universities to strengthen collaboration

The Cabinet has approved a series of memoranda of understanding in a move to elevate Lankan universities on the global stage and foster international collaborations.

The University of Sri Jayewardenepura has secured multiple partnerships to enhance its academic and research capabilities. Its collaboration with Wuhan University, China, it will focus on developing educational programmes, research training, and organising knowledge-sharing workshops.

A similar agreement with Isu University, Japan, aims to strengthen cooperation in higher education, science, and technology through information exchange and joint research initiatives.

Additionally, its partnership with Agder University, Norway, will facilitate joint research, student and staff exchanges, and shared academic resources. An MoU with Deakin University, Australia, will support the development of short-term training courses and collaborative projects.

The University of Moratuwa has entered into an MoU with Linyi University, China, to promote postgraduate cooperation based on mutual academic and research interests.

The University of Peradeniya has partnered with Mahatma Gandhi University of Medical Sciences and Technology, India, to facilitate research collaborations, educational exchanges, shared learning resources, and joint workshops and conferences.

The South Eastern University of Sri Lanka has established an agreement with Shandong University of Science and Technology, China, to enable student and faculty exchanges, joint research supervision, and training programmes for probationary lecturers.

The University of Kelaniya has signed two key MoUs: one with the State University of New York Cortland, USA, to foster research collaborations, faculty and student exchanges, and cultural programmes; and another with the National Korean Maritime and Ocean University, South Korea, to enhance academic and research initiatives through joint workshops and conferences.

Furthermore, the Open University of Sri Lanka has partnered with The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), Australia, to expand graduate and postgraduate programmes.
