The residents of Dambatenne estate in Haputale have complained that wild elephants had ravaged vegetable plots on Friday night.

Fearing further attacks they have asked wildlife officials to drive the elephants away.

They said the Koslanda town and the Punagala area that are adjacent to Dambatenne estate often face the threat of elephant attacks and they fear the same fate.

The estate residents also said tourists who visit the Lipton seat in the area could also be affected.

The elephants were on the move and had come to the lower portion of the Pitaratmale estate, following the attack on vegetable plots in the Dambatenne estate. The area Grama Niladhari said they had used crackers to drive away the elephants.
