A fundraiser for Peter Weerasekera Foundation
View(s):‘Golden Memories and Sensational Melodies’, an evening of timeless moments and captivating music, will be held on February 8 (next Saturday) at 7 p.m. at the Women’s International Club, Colombo, to raise funds for the charitable work of the Peter Weerasekera Foundation.
Honouring the legacy of the late Lakshman Kadirgamar, lawyer and statesman, panelists Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka, Dr. Sakunthala Kadirgamar and Prof. Rajiva Wijesinha will reflect on the remarkable contributions and enduring impact of this ‘true son of Sri Lanka’.
The evening will also feature ‘My journey at Trinity College’ by guest speaker Nimal Cooke, with musical interludes with the lovely voice of Dr. Manella Joseph accompanied by Dr. Prashanthi Mendis on steel drums.
The Peter Weerasekera Foundation is a charitable institution which has been in existence since 1959 to care and provide food, shelter, clothing, medicine and other necessities free of charge to orphans sent through the Department of Probation and Childcare Services and the courts. The Foundation is a government approved charity for tax purposes under Gazette Notification No 2329/18 – Monday, April 24, 2023.
It was tragedy in his own life, the loss of his parents when he was a tender six years old, that led to the Founder of this charity, Singha Weerasekera, donating the building to set up the Children’s Home in Yakkala.
