Unbeaten Renown Blues continue to lead UTF Junior League
Renown Football Academy (FA) Blues made it four-out-of-four wins after beating Henry Pedris FA by 6-0 in the fourth week of matches of the ‘Unity Through Football’ (UTF) Junior Under-10s Football League played at the City League Ground in Colombo on Saturday.
With their fourth straight win, Renown FA Blues top the UTF points table with 12 points following an unbeaten run, as Colombo Kickerz follow next at second position with eight points under their belt after two each of wins and losses. Renown FA Whites, who recorded a win, a loss and two draws, are placed third followed by Java Lane SA, Cooray FA and Henry Pedris FA.
In the opening match Renown FA Blues took an early lead through a well taken goal by Mohomed Shaffaq, as they extended the lead through their captain M.N. Jef to lead 2-0 at half time. The top scorers of the UTF League went on a rampage in the second half to score four more goals with Jef scoring two more to complete his hat trick and goal apiece from Akram Ahamed and Ayaan Hassan. M.N. Jef was aptly named the Player of the Match.
In the second match Colombo Kickerz FA, who were placed second in the table met Renown FA Whites, who were placed third, where after a see-saw battle both teams failed to snatch the decisive goal. The reason the match ended in a stalemate was due to the brilliant last ditch tackling from both sets of defenders. Ayyash Arshad from Renown FA Whites was named the Player of the Match.
In the third match, home team Java Lane FA was looking to follow up their victory of Week 3 with another win to move up the table. Despite the dominance by Java Lane, SA Cooray FA put in another spirited display of defense, similar to last week when they held Colombo Kickerz FA, to drag the match to a goalless end.
The ended fourth week of Sri Lanka’s first-ever junior football league was hosted by Java Lane Soccer Academy as Cooray Football Academy will host the fifth week at Cooray Park, which is being renovated for the League One, the new Division 1 football tournament for clubs.
