Govt. jobs for special degree holders
View(s):Steps are being taken to provide employment for special degree holders in Education, Deputy Minister of Education and Higher Education Madhura Seneviratne told parliament on Friday.
The appointments will be made at the provincial council level in accordance with the Sri Lanka Teachers’ Service Minute (SLTS).
He was responding to questions raised by Kins Nelson on the shortage of 30,000 teachers in government schools. Mr Nelson highlighted that approximately 16,000 development officers were promised teaching jobs and are still awaiting appointments, with the following distribution: North Central Province (1,545), North Western (2,800), Southern (2,535), Western (1,100), Eastern (1,016), Uva (1,300), Sabaragamuwa (1,800), Northern (826), and Central (2,800).
The deputy minister said efforts are being made to integrate these officers into the government service. A cabinet sub-committee has conducted discussions on this and is expected to announce the procedures within the next 2-3 weeks.
