The provision of an allowance of Rs 6,000 for selected schoolchildren to purchase school books has been launched with a QR code.

A total of 1.6 million students are to benefit from the scheme, with the highest number of beneficiaries from families coming under the Aswesuma programme. Schools with less than 300 children will also be provided with the facility.

Accordingly, 415,000 students will receive the allowance.

Private schools with less than 300 students too will benefit, and accordingly 1,368 students will receive the vouchers. Some70,000 students at piriven and seelamawatha aramayas too will benefit from the scheme. The students will be able to use the vouchers at any of the bookshops including those not registered. The government will spend Rs 3 billion for the scheme.
