Eight-member Sri Lanka team to compete at Asian Rifle/Pistol Cup in Bangkok

Sri Lanka will be represented by eight athletes at the Asian Rifle/Pistol Cup 2025 set to take place at the SAT Shooting Range in Bangkok, Thailand. Expected to attract top tanked shooters from the Asian region, the event will be held from February 9 to 22, with competitions set to begin from Tuesday, following the official opening ceremony tomorrow.

Among the eight shooters representing Sri Lanka are seven girls and a boy, who will be competing in the 10m Air Pistol and Air Rifle Junior events. The five shooters vying in the 10m Air Pistol Junior Women are Thisangi Geethma of University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Reinya Ranasinghe of Colombo International School, Kandy, Vinuthmee Seneviratna of Southland College, Galle, Sinadi Kodikara of Visakha Vidyalaya and Ahansa Wijenayake of Sujatha Vidyalaya, Nugegoda.

Siyathi Galagedara of House of Shooters Sports Shooting Academy and Club and Umaya Kumarasiri of Dharmapala Vidyalaya, Pannipitiya will compete under the 10m Air Rifle Junior Women event, while Sri Lanka’s solo representation in the 10m Air Pistol, Junior Men event will be Aryan Senaratne of Nalanda College. All athletes selected for the Asian Rifle/Pistol Cup 2025 are members of the respective national pools of the National Shooting Sport Federation of Sri Lanka.

The Sri Lankan shooting athletes will be in action from Tuesday, with the beginning of the preliminary rounds of the 10m Air Pistol and 10m Air Rifle events for both Junior Men and Junior Women. As the levels progress, the athletes will qualify for the next rounds before reaching the finals set to take place next Saturday.

The eight-member team will be accompanied by six officials. The coaches assisting the team members are Sagara Wimaladharma, Nandana Weerasinghe, Nalinda Ranasinghe and Gihan Karunaratna, while Wasana Karunarathna joins the team as the Lady Chaperone. The Team Manager for the tour is Dinesh Lionel. The 14-member Sri Lanka contingent will leave for Bangkok today.
