In his speech, the Deputy Minister emphasised that the primary focus of the new budget is to elevate Sri Lanka’s economy to the next level, ensuring benefits for all sectors. He highlighted that Sri Lanka, blessed with geographical advantages, skilled human resources, and cultural diversity, has immense potential to thrive. He attributed past economic setbacks to unethical political practices and stressed that these challenges need to be overcome. Furthermore, he underscored the important role that professional institutes like AAT Sri Lanka play in nurturing the knowledge and experience of the nation’s youth, who will shoulder the future responsibilities of financial transparency, inclusivity, and accountability. The Deputy Minister noted, “We are a nation burdened with a $100 billion debt, and this budget marks the first steps toward reducing this debt and expanding the size of our GDP.” He also discussed the emphasis the budget places on the SME sector, stressing that with the right policies and strategies, the growth of this sector is very much achievable.

The President of AAT Sri Lanka- Mr. Indraka Liyanage also addressed the audience and he expressed that AAT, as a leading professional accounting body, has always been committed to empowering professionals with knowledge, skills, and insights that contribute to sound financial management and economic development in Sri Lanka. He also acknowledged the fact that everyone, every institution has the responsibility and the duty to become a part of economic development, as emphasised by the Deputy Minister, and that together, we can have hopes of a new Sri Lanka.
