Hideout Lounge Kandy offers an idyllic retreat from the city’s hustle and bustle. Guests are greeted by a thoughtfully designed space that combines cosy interiors, warm wooden accents, and ambient lighting. The bohemian interior, open layout and panoramic views of Kandy’s picturesque mountains transport visitors to a serene haven reminiscent of Sri Lanka’s southern coast.
“Our goal was to create a space that didn’t feel like Kandy, where people could truly relax, connect, and enjoy. We envisioned a place where regulars would feel at home while visitors could discover something unique and authentic,” shares Founder of Hideout Lounge Kandy, Lankanath Don.
The Hideout Lounge is celebrated for its innovative approach to food and beverages. The menu is a carefully curated blend of Western and Sri Lankan flavours, featuring unique signature dishes like zucchini noodles (zoodles), beetroot pasta (beesta), cauliflower steak, hummus with prawns and green shakshuka. Guests can also indulge in various pizzas, Asian favourites, pasta, and steaks, as well as vegan, vegetarian, and pescatarian options—ensuring something for everyone.
The venue hosts various vibrant events, from its signature Boozy Brunches—a first in Kandy to seasonal parties that attract a select crowd. Guests can enjoy live music, DJ performances, and curated playlists that set the perfect mood for any occasion.
Regular events feature a mix of local and international artists, with highlights such as performances by Dillon James of Slipping Chairs and female DJ Sarini.
“We aimed to address a gap in Kandy’s entertainment scene,” Lankanath explains.
Hideout Lounge began its journey as a hostel in 2015 and later transitioned into a restaurant in 2017, merging both concepts into a singular space. In 2016, the brand expanded to Arugam Bay, where it operates seasonally, continuing to build on its reputation for hospitality and innovation.
With seating for up to 200 guests, Hideout Lounge Kandy blends its bohemian aesthetic with functional elegance. Every detail, from the cosy wooden furniture to the sleek bar, is designed to create an inviting and memorable atmosphere.
