Sadev, Rukshan shine in another drab day at SSC
Day two of the 62nd Battle of the Brothers between traditional rivals Thurstan College and Isipathana College at the SSC ground was yet another slow-moving affair, echoing the lethargy of the opening day.
After Isipathana occupied the crease for most of day one, Thurstan followed suit, grinding through 91.3 overs before declaring at 257 for 9.
Despite the sluggish pace, left-arm spinner Menula Sadev of Isipathana stood out with a brilliant five-wicket haul, keeping Thurstan under pressure. However, Thurstan’s innings was steadied by Mohamed Asjad and Janitha Rukshan, with the latter top-scoring with a gritty 77.
Sadev had Thurstan reeling early on, but Rukshan staged a rescue act, forging two crucial partnerships—61 runs for the seventh wicket with Pathum Dhananjaya (42) and a 69-run stand for the ninth wicket with Yovun Silpa (20). Their efforts lifted Thurstan from a precarious 123 for 6 to a more respectable total.
Isipathana, in their second innings, faced just two overs and ended unscathed with no wickets down. The contest resumes today.
