Mahroom Al-Haj A M Ismail is synonymous with Kandy Siddi Lebbe Maha Vidyalaya. When this school was in a condition that it could not be resurrected, it was Al-Haj Ismail who as the president of the Kandy Muslim Traders Association came forward to organise a committee to rebuild this school. Today it is a premier school for the Muslim community – a tribute to this amiable and duty-conscious man who lived according to the teachings of Prophet Mohammed.

Mr Ismail was a pioneer in forming the Kandy Muslim Traders Association; for which a commemoration event was held at the Kandy Jinnah Hall, where a memento was presented to his family.

The late Mr Ismail had a good rapport with other communities living in Kandy and he will always be remembered by them.

Among those present when the memento was presented to his son Aashiq Hussain, was former municipal councilor Al-Haj Illahai Abdeen and many others who had worked with the Mr Ismail.

The president and office bearers of the Muslim Traders Association were also present.
