The Colombo District GP and Locum Doctors Association (GPLDA) held its GP & Locum Doctors Night 2025 recently at the Golden Rose Hotel in Boralesgamuwa. The event marked a significant step forward in uniting and empowering the GP and locum community in Sri Lanka.

Organised under the leadership of Dr. Dinidu Ranasinghe, Dr. Neranja Weerakoon (Co-Conveners, GPLDA Colombo District), Dr. Aruna Ruwanpathirana (Treasurer, GPLDA Colombo District), and an Action committee of 20 experienced doctors, the event showcased the growing influence of GPLDA. Since its inception, this GMOA-affiliated association has rapidly expanded to Puttalam, Kurunegala, Kegalle, and Galle districts, with plans to establish a nationwide network in the near future.

Those who attended the event as guests included Dr. Prabath Sugathadasa (Secretary, GMOA) and Dr. Sanjeewa Thennakoon (President, GMOA), who lauded GPLDA’s efforts in fostering professional growth, fair employment practices, and continuous education for GPs and locum doctors. A highlight of the night was an engaging CPD lecture on “What’s New in Hypertension” by Dr. Roshan Paranamana (Consultant Cardiologist).

Dr. Dinidu Ranasinghe (Co convenor – GPLDA Colombo) unveiled GPLDA’s ambitious plans, including collaborations with leading hospitals to enhance GP referral systems, initiatives to improve facilities at GP and locum practices, the introduction of GPLDA membership cards, and robust continuous professional development programmes.

The event also saw a surge in new memberships for the GPLDA. Membership is open to all doctors practising as GPs or locums, regardless of their sector.
