Multiple schools to be taught through smart boards from this month
View(s):The digitalization project, under which schools will make use of smart boards making maximum use of teacher resources, begins this month.
In the first phase of the project, smart boards are provided with funding by the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission at a cost of Rs 1,700 million.
1,000 smart boards will be distributed to schools under the first phase this month to commence the project.
In the second phase, 2,000 smart boards provided by the Chinese government funding will be distributed. The Chinese government has pledged to provide the boards this year.
The grant from China amounts to US$ 20 million .
The introduction of the digitalisation programme will facilitate the use of smart boards to teach students from a several schools at the same time.
3,500 schools of the 10,000 schools across the country will be covered by the project.
The digitalisation programme was launched by the former government. Discussions with the Chinese government to obtain smart boards commenced during former Education Minister Susil Premajayantha’s period. (DWI)
