The government has decided on measures to prevent the repeat of an incident where several questions in the 2024 Grade 5 Scholarship Exam paper were leaked.

In answer to a question raised by Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Dayasiri Jayasekara, Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, who is also the Minister of Education, told Parliament on Thursday (27) that the measures include strengthening security measures in the Confidential Sections of the Department of Examination, upgrading the internal CCTV system within the Confidential Sections to enable better monitoring, and creating a semi-automated system to draft question papers rather than by a Board of Examiners, thus minimising human intervention in drafting question papers.

Other measures include developing an automated system so it is able to draft questions that are in line with the objectives and standards of the examination, strengthening the invigilation process and increasing the frequency of deploying invigilators, limiting the right to use a mobile phone within an examination hall to the supervisor of that examination hall, and deploying external invigilators on a full-time basis in addition to permanent staff at an examination centre, the PM told Parliament.
