Bloomfield in line to record fourth win

Bloomfield have tightened their grip on the game against Badureliya SC, putting themselves in a strong position for their fourth outright victory as play concluded on day two of the SLC 3-day Major Club Tournament at Reid Avenue yesterday. Rain once again played spoilsport, curtailing proceedings after a rain-hit opening day had already allowed only 33 overs of play.

Resuming from their overnight score of 58 for 1, Bloomfield made their intentions clear with a commanding batting display. Ron Chandragupta and Ravindu Fernando stole the spotlight with brilliant centuries, anchoring two crucial partnerships—150 runs for the second wicket between Chandragupta and Asitha Wanninayake, and an unbroken 144-run stand for the fourth wicket between Fernando and skipper Nipun Karunanayake. Their efforts propelled Bloomfield to a formidable 365 for 3 declared.

Faced with a daunting 278-run deficit, Badureliya SC found themselves in trouble at 128 for 4 when rain forced an early end to the day’s play. They were skittled out for a meagre 87 runs in the first innings. With momentum firmly on their side, Bloomfield will be eager to push for an outright victory—one that would cement their place in the final against NCC. The matches will continue today.
