Restricted Cambrians fight back to check Sebs
St. Sebastian’s College spin duo—left-arm spinner Ryan Dissanayake and right-arm spinner Shenas Hashein, ran riot in the morning session of day two, dismantling Prince of Wales College’s batting lineup in their 75th Battle of the Golds encounter at De Zoysa Stadium, Moratuwa yesterday.
Resuming from their overnight score of 111 for 4, the Cambrians crumbled under relentless spin pressure, folding up for just 161. Dissanayake led the charge with a four-wicket haul, while Hashein provided solid support, claiming three scalps.
The only resistance came from overnight pair Gavesha Fernand and Nethul Anuhas, who added 23 more runs to take their fifth-wicket stand to 41. However, once that partnership was broken, the floodgates opened. The remaining five wickets tumbled for a mere 27 runs, with Rusanda de Silva being the only low order batsman to reach double figures.
In response, St. Sebastian’s found themselves in early trouble, losing two quick wickets with just 20 runs on the board. The Cambrian bowlers fought back hard, reducing the Sebs to 98 for 5, making every run a struggle. By the time rain forced an early stoppage, St. Sebastian’s were precariously placed at 129 for 7. The match will end today.
