e-population registry for Colombo this month
View(s):The Registrar Generals Department has plans to complete the e-population registry, an electronic database of basic information on all Sri Lankan citizens for Colombo this month, a top official said.
“We plan to issue an e-birth certificate for those born after January 2021 in Colombo in addition to the handwritten birth certificate with the e-population project backed by the civil registration and vital statistics project launched together with the Ministry of Digital Economy, United Nations Development Programme and Asian Development Bank as partners,” D.A.L.S. Ganepola Senior Deputy, Registrar General, Registrar Generals Department told The Sunday Times Business.
The project expects to build a consolidated set of basic information for every citizen of Sri Lanka and create an efficient and reliable life events registration system, increasing the information sharing with government institutions using the population register, ultimately entails having a unique number to identify each Sri Lankan, she added. “The goal is to ensure data accuracy, facilitate certificate copying from Divisional Secretary Offices, reduce translations, make it usable in foreign countries, maintain current citizen information, and facilitate information sharing between institutions.”
