Gateway College Maintains Its Supremacy at COMUN 2025
View(s):Gateway College once again asserted its dominance at the Colombo Operated Model United Nations (COMUN) 2025, held on February 28th, March 1st, and 2nd. Demonstrating exceptional diplomacy and public speaking prowess, the Gateway College delegation secured 31 prestigious awards across multiple committees. As one of Sri Lanka’s most esteemed and long-standing MUN conferences, COMUN continues to attract over 300 delegates from more than 20 schools, setting a high standard for competitive debate and discourse.
Outstanding Achievements Across Committees
In the Third General Assembly, which simulated discussions on ‘Digital Access in Promoting Human Rights for Marginalised Groups,’ Wageesha Helindi De Silva earned the Best Novice Delegate award, while Mohammad Luqmaan secured the Second Honourary Mention. In a closely contested session, Ahmed Aaqib Fauzul Ameer achieved 2nd Higher Commendation, Dhanuka Wijegoonaratne claimed 1st Higher Commendation, and A. P. Ranithu Rishon was honoured with the esteemed Best Delegate award.
In the World Health Assembly, which addressed the rise of non-communicable diseases, Prancikkuge Gimna Santhushie received the Best Novice award, while Ramal Liyanawaduge attained 1st Honourary Mention. In a highly competitive session, Shahzadi Sujahudeen secured the 1st Higher Commendation, and Anna Pathirage emerged victorious with the Best Delegate award.

The INTERPOL General Assembly, focusing on ‘Enhancing Capacities to Tackle Transnational Organised Crime,’ saw Risath Sathnindu earn the Best Novice award. Manhal Mauroof was recognised for his diplomatic acumen with the Best Foreign Policy Statement award, while Habib Moinuddin received the 1st Honourary Mention. Aiden Thomas delivered a stellar performance, winning the Best Delegate award.
In the WIPO General Assembly, where delegates debated ‘The Enhancement of Public Finances for Debt Management, Climate Obligations, and Economic Growth,’ Saif Imran secured the 2nd Honourary Mention, while Jehan Gunarathne was honored with the prestigious Best Delegate award.
The Climate and Economic Resilience Forum, which examined the ‘Trade-off Between Sustainable Outcomes and Financial Performance within the Climate Crisis,’ saw Gishanka Perera receive 1st Honourary Mention, Navakarthikeyan Satgunaraja achieve 1st Higher Commendation, and Dylan C. Pangoda clinch the highly sought-after Best Delegate award.
In the Global eSports Federation, which deliberated on the integration of GeF within the Olympics, Sanuka Opatha earned the 2nd Honourary Mention award. Meanwhile, in the Intelligence Sharing Coalition, which discussed the influence of intelligence agencies on modern conflicts, Yasir Nasran was named Best Delegate.
The International Press Corps saw remarkable journalistic talent, with Sawrah Jaufer winning Best Novice Journalist and Virun Karunaratne securing the Higher Commendation award. The Best News Agency award went to the Japan Times, with Yashod Mohottiararchchi, Sawrah Jaufer, and Virun Karunaratne contributing significantly to this success.
In the ad-hoc committee, which merged the Third General Assembly, World Health Assembly, and Climate and Economic Resilience Forum, the Delegation of South Africa—represented by Dhanuka Wijegoonaratne, Ramal Liyanawaduge, and Gishanka Perera—was awarded Higher Commendation for Best Crisis. Meanwhile, the Best Crisis Delegation award for the General Assembly Crisis was secured by the Delegation of the United Kingdom, consisting of A. P. Ranithu Rishon, Dylan C. Pangoda, and Shahzadi Sujahudeen.
