Photos of the aftermath of the musical show held at the Diyasaru Park (Thalawathugoda Biodiversity Study Park) last week displays the damage that can be done due to ill-thought decisions by officials to this biodiversity rich area which is home to many species of birds, reptiles, butterflies etc.
The decision to grant permission to hold a musical show at the 60-acre wetland area near the Parliament Complex in
Sri Jayewardenepura drew criticism from environmentalists, as well as members of the public, as loud noises and littering causes distress and harm to the wildlife in this wetland area. The park attracts students, environmental enthusiasts and nature lovers. Allowing large scale events that generate loud sounds and messes up the area should be banned if it is to be preserved in the years to come.
