Three senior High Court judges to fill vacancies in the Court of Appeal

The Constitutional Council (CC) has approved the names of three senior High Court Judges to fill the vacancies in the Court of Appeal (CA).
The three judges are Kandy High Court judge Sumudu Premachandra, Commercial High Court (Colombo) judge K. Priyantha Fernando, and Trincomalee High Court judge A. Premashankar.
Their names were proposed by Chief Justice Murdu Fernando and were forwarded to the CC by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. The CC approved the names of the three judges at its meeting last Wednesday (5).
The newly appointed CA justices are to be sworn in before the President early next week.
All three judges joined the judicial service as magistrates and have served as District and High Court judges in various parts of the country.
There is still one more vacancy in the CA that remains to be filled.
