Sivarajan and Wijesuriya emerge NSF Cross-Country champs
Mutthusami Sivarajan of Central Province and Rasara Wijesuriya of Eastern Province emerged winners of the Cross-Country Run of the 49th National Sports Festival 2025, organised by the Department of Sports Development of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, in Nuwara Eliya yesterday.
Mutthusami Sivarajan of Central Province secured first place in the Men’s category with a time of 34 minutes and 21 seconds, followed by Samantha Pushpakumara of Western Province who finished second behind by just 0.2 seconds, clocking in at 34:57. Damith Hemantha Kumara, also from Western Province, claimed third place with a time of 34:59.
In the Women’s category, Rasara Wijesuriya of Eastern Province took first place with a time of 38:41 while Wathsala Madhushani Herath from Central Province finished second at 40:04, narrowly beating Chamini Samudrika Herath, also from Central Province, by 0.14 seconds (40:18).
The 10km run was open to individuals over the age of 15, attracting athletes from across the country at the National Cross-Country Run, which flagged odd the National Sports Festival. Nestlé’s Nestomalt partnered with the Department of Sports Development of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs as sponsor of the 49th National Sports Festival during March 15 to 25.
