Sri Lanka’s economy grew by 5 % in 2024

The Census and Statistics Department said this week the economy of Sri Lanka grew by 5 percent in 2024. The GDP for the year 2024 at constant prices (2015) increased up to Rs.12,472,469 million from Rs. 11,877,556 million which was recorded in the year 2023.

All the three sectors of the economy; Agriculture, Industry and Services expanded by 1.2 per cent, 11.0 per cent and 2.4 per cent respectively, the department said.

Meanwhile the Central Bank said on Wednesday that its’ Monetary Policy Review: No. 02 of 2025 will be announced on March 26.

At the previous review announced on January 29, 2025, the banking regulator said the Monetary Policy Board of the Central Bank decided to maintain the Overnight Policy Rate (OPR) at its current level of 8 per cent.
