Army cleans Sri Lanka’s schools
View(s):Sri Lanka Army has engaged in the reconstruction work of over 500 schools with the support of teachers, students and parents under the area of responsibility of all its Security Force Headquarters.
14,500 Army personnel were voluntarily deployed in social work of cleaning and reconstructing schools. With the contributions by volunteers, from February 20 to March 17, the army engaged in reconstruction work related to 497 schools.
In addition to these cleaning activities, the roofs of the buildings of 140 schools were painted and repaired by the soldiers. Since the desks and chairs of one school were in an unusable condition, they were repaired and painted. The troops repaired the fences on school borders that were damaged with the passage of time.
Sri Lanka Army said this was its contribution to achieve the goals of the ‘Clean
Sri Lanka’ programme by engaging in ‘shramadana’.
