In a groundbreaking milestone for early childhood education in Sri Lanka, Lyceum International School has officially launched the Pearson iPrimary Reception curriculum. This marks the first time this internationally recognised programme has been introduced in the country, further reinforcing Lyceum’s stance to providing world-class education to its students.

The prestigious event was graced by eminent dignitaries, including: Ms. Emma Whale – Vice President International, Pearson, Ms. Premila Paulraj  – Director for Market Growth, Pearson, (Dr.) Mrs. Kumari Grero –  Consulting Coordinating Principal, Lyceum International School , Mr.  Nikitha Grero – Group Chairman and CEO, Lyceum Global Holdings, Mr. Nilanka Imbuldeniya – Director General, Lyceum Education Group and Ms. Kumari Wijeratne – Coordinating Principal, Lyceum International School.

Held at the Lyceum campus auditorium, the inauguration event welcomed educators, school leaders, and distinguished guests from Pearson and the wider education sector. This pioneering initiative is set to provide young learners with a strong foundation for lifelong academic success through a globally relevant, inquiry-based approach to education.

A Global Vision for Local Education

The Pearson iPrimary Reception curriculum, also known as the International Early Years curriculum, is designed to nurture a love for learning from the very start. The programme emphasises critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration, allowing children to explore subjects through hands-on, interactive experiences. By integrating global best practices while remaining adaptable to local contexts, this curriculum ensures that students at Lyceum receive an internationally benchmarked education tailored to their developmental needs.

Reflecting on the significance of this launch, Ms. Kumari Wijeratne, Coordinating Principal of Lyceum International School, shared; “Our decision to introduce iPrimary Reception stemmed from our long-standing commitment to the Pearson curriculum, which we have successfully implemented from Grades 1 to 11. With 17 pre-primary locations and over 4,100 young learners, we recognised the need to provide the same high-quality learning experience from the earliest years.”

Ms. Premila Paulraj, Director for Market Growth at Pearson, accentuated the strength of the Pearson-Lyceum partnership and its role in shaping future-ready students, “ With over 26,000 students across multiple branches, Lyceum’s transition to the Pearson Edexcel curriculum has been a transformative journey. The institution’s continued success at A-Levels, including world prize achievements, reaffirms our shared vision for academic excellence. The iPrimary Reception curriculum enhances existing teaching methodologies, ensuring a seamless progression through the International Primary, Lower Secondary, International GCSE, and A-Level pathways” Ms. Emma Whale, Vice President International at Pearson, highlighted the importance of high-quality early childhood education, stating, “Early childhood learning is built moment by moment as children interact with their environment. These experiences lay the foundation for cognitive, social, and emotional development in years to come. What makes this curriculum unique is its seamless progression, ensuring a smooth educational journey for young learners.”

Preparing Students for Global Success

Beyond the introduction of the Pearson iPrimary Reception curriculum, Lyceum International School continues to enhance its academic offerings by integrating the Pearson Test of English (PTE) into the curriculum. This strategic initiative aims to equip students with essential language skills, facilitating a seamless transition to higher education and study opportunities abroad.

With this latest advancement, Lyceum International School remains at the forefront of educational excellence, empowering young learners with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to thrive in an increasingly globalised world.
