Assets declaration: JSC seeks list of non-compliant judicial officers

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has sought information regarding the failure of judicial officers, excluding judges, to submit their 2024 annual asset and liability declarations.

JSC Secretary H.S. Somaratne issued a circular to all High Court judges, who function as department heads, requesting that they provide details of officers under their supervision without delay.

The district and magistrate courts too have been covered by the circular.

This is in keeping with the provisions of the Anti-Corruption Act, No. 9 of 2023.

The JSC sought information on the number of officers, other than judicial officers, serving in each zone and how many of them have filed their assets and liabilities declarations and how many have failed to do so.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption wrote to the JSC in January, pointing out the need to file the assets declarations on time each year.

Under the provisions of the Act, judicial officers and scheduled public officers appointed by the Judicial Service Commission are among those who have to make annual declarations of their assets and liabilities along with those of their spouses and dependent children.
