Peradeniya Vet Hospital goes hi-tech
View(s):By L. B. Senaratne
The Veterinary Hospital in Peradeniya has begun maintaining records digitally from this week.
The Veterinary Teaching Hospital, ancillary to the University of Peradeniya, celebrated a milestone with new initiatives which will shape the future of veterinary care and education.
The hospital launched a comprehensive digital record data recording system which was made possible by a private pet care organisation, shifting traditionally handwritten records to digital platforms, ensuring more accurate and efficient data management and allowing for faster research and better care.
The digital transition is expected to significantly improve the quality of studies and ease the administrative burden on the Hospital staff.
An endoscopy machine for advanced diagnostics had been donated by Dr. S. Logeswaran – a Sri Lankan veterinarian practicing in London. Endoscopy, a minimal invasive technique, offers numerous advantages, including the ability to perform biopsies and conduct diagnostic procedures with minimal surgical and anesthetic risks.
At the heart of the celebrations was the donation of a vehicle for wild animal rescue, a donation from SOS Rhino USA through the Veterinary Alumni Association of Peradeniya. The vehicle facilitates transporting animals, ensuring that they are treated and rehabilitated before being returned to the wild.
Also, a separate care centre for dogs and cats in line with global veterinary practices will begin offering separate care for canines and felines. This facility was made possible through financial support from Royal Canin and was coordinated by the Veterinary Alumni Association. It will expose undergraduates to international standards of animal care. The Veterinary Teaching Hospital aims to enhance the safety and comfort of other species as well, improving the overall quality provided, says the Director of the Hospital, Professor Ashoka Dangolla.
