Gateway excels in Scrabble Championships
View(s):Gateway College once again demonstrated exceptional talent in scrabble, securing remarkable victories at several highly competitive tournaments.
The TISSL Scrabble Tournament 2024/2025, hosted by Burhani Serendib School, witnessed Gateway College’s dominance as their Under-18 team emerged as champions. The winning team comprised of Adheesha Dissanayake, Ilham Irshaad, Tharun Priyadarshan, Aneesha Abeygunawardena and Risath Sathnindu.
In the Under-16 category, Gateway finished as runners-up, with an impressive line-up of players, which included Imad Irshaad, Inam Irshaad, Iyaad Irshaad, Dulain Wanigasekara and Shanilka Rodrigo.

Additionally, individual accolades were awarded to Adheesha Dissanayake as the Best Player and Ilham Irshaad claimed the award for the Highest Word Scorer. In the Under-18 category, the Highest Game Scorer award was won by Imad Irshaad.
Gateway continued its winning streak at the Royal College Scrabble Bash 2025, with its Under-20 team emerging as champions. The victorious team included Adheesha Dissanayake, Ilham Irshad, Inam Irshad, Iyaad Irshad, and Tharun Priyadarshan. Adheesha once again emerged the Best Player of the competition while Imad went on to claim his second individual award as the Highest Game Scorer.
The remarkable achievements of Gateway at these tournaments are a testament to their dedication, strategy, and intellectual prowess in scrabble. Their continuous success highlights the school’s commitment to nurturing young talent in mind sports. The school’s players have achieved extraordinary milestones, further solidifying their reputation in scrabble, both locally and internationally.
