Niwasipura gets new look

A community welfare association has set up a management and maintenance model for a housing scheme situated at Niwasipura.

The Niwasipura Community Welfare Association took over the maintenance, beautification and improving security for all residents at the housing scheme.

President of the Association Roshan Sirisena said that after he was appointed he assumed responsibility over improvements. To improve security they replaced the mesh wire on the perimeter with a wall.

They have increased the number of security in charge of the gates and installed security lights.  They have carried out road renovations and planted ornamental plants. There are plans to create a library, indoor stadiums as well as badminton courts within the property as future projects.

The lake near the housing scheme is also being cleaned, a resident of Niwasipura, said. The association has started to replace non-native acacia trees with native trees.

The association which consists of vice president, secretary, treasurer and assisted by a committee of 21 members have set up a mechanism of segregating garbage. The association purchased tractors and JCBs by levying a monthly fee for maintenance.
