A big splash with Everland
View(s):As Ladies’ College celebrates its 125th milestone year, the water ballet ‘Everland’ will make a memorable splash on April 3 and 4 at the LC pool. Based on the much loved story of Peter Pan with a special LC twist, the production is directed, produced and choreographed by two gifted young alumni.
Ladies’ College was the first school in Sri Lanka to introduce artistic swimming (previously synchronised swimming) over 50 years ago. In December 1973 for the first time in Sri Lanka a scintillating display of artistic swimming was presented at the Royal College swimming pool by the advanced swimming squad of Ladies’ College. Since then the school has presented many water ballets: a spectacular fantasy water ballet “Little Sea Maid” by Hans Anderson performed in 1975 with a display of acrobatic skills and a remarkable flame drill display; “The Little Mermaid” in 1992 (when LC became the first girls’ school to have its own swimming pool), “Thumbelina” in 1997, “All that Jazz” in 2008 and “Dancing through the decades” in 2013.
Additionally, the school’s artistic swimmers presented a water ballet in 1997 at the Pentathlon Championships and participated in a water ballet organised by NAASU in 1998 titled ‘Aqua Splendour’.
