Dialog-powered Para athletes shine in New Delhi and Dubai
Sri Lanka’s para athletes produced outstanding performances at two major international meets, securing multiple medals at the New Delhi 2025 WPA Grand Prix and Dubai World Para Athletics Grand Prix 2025. Their impressive achievements highlight Sri Lanka’s growing dominance in para athletics.
Powered by Dialog Axiata, the Sri Lankan contingent made a strong impact at the New Delhi 2025 WPA Grand Prix, clinching three gold, three silver and a fourth place across multiple track and field events. Among the standout performers was Prasanna Jayalath, who dominated the T42 Men’s 100m and Long Jump events, winning two gold medals.
In the women’s category, Janani Dhananjana put a stellar performance, claiming a gold medal in the T47 Women’s Long Jump while also securing silver medals in the 100m and 200m events. Gamini Ekanayake also added to Sri Lanka’s medal tally with a commendable silver medal in the F46 Men’s Javelin Throw.
Meanwhile, Heshan Fernando secured a silver medal in the Men’s Long Jump, further reinforcing Sri Lanka’s strength in field events. Though failed to make a podium finish, Deshan Silva competed fiercely in the F40 Men’s Shot Put, finishing fourth.
Following their remarkable showing in New Delhi, Sri Lanka’s para athletes continued their winning streak at the Dubai World Para Athletics Grand Prix. The competition saw yet another dominant display by the Sri Lankan athletes.
H.G. Palitha was one of the standout performers, clinching two gold medals in the F42 Men’s Shot Putt and the Men’s Discus Throw events. His throws of 13.77m in the Shot Putt and 44.06m in the Discus Throw demonstrated his sheer power and precision, making him one of the most formidable competitors at the meet. Another exceptional performance came from Paralympic medalist Samitha Dulan, who secured a gold medal in the F44 Men’s Javelin Throw with an impressive mark of 61.88m, further establishing himself as a top javelin thrower on the international stage. Nuwan Indika secured two silver medals in the T44 Men’s Long Jump (6.35m) and the 100m sprint (11.45secs). Pradeep Somasiri also contributed to Sri Lanka’s medal haul, winning silver in the T46 Men’s 1500m with a time of 4:05.57, proving his endurance and tactical strength in middle-distance running.
