Skipper Sharujan guides Bens to fourth Luke Shield win
Skipper Sharujan Shanmuganathan cracked a quick-fire 53-ball knock of 50 and shared a valuable stand of 94 runs for the fourth wicket with Samindu Peiris, to help St. Benedict’s College to record a comfortable 6-wicket win over traditional rivals Wesley College in their annual limited over encounter played for the Luke Shield at the SSC ground yesterday.
Wesley batted first and were bowled out for 168 with Lithum Senuja top scoring 59, while Manikya Deshapriya captured three scalps. Skipper Sharujan and Buddhima Tharupathi shared four wickets between them.
Sharujan returned to top score for St. Benedict’s with 50 runs, in pursuit of 169 runs for victory as Samindu Peiris (41n.o.) and Didula Edirisuriya (23n.o.) helped them see through the winning target with ease in the 38th over and bag the Luke Shield for the fourth successive year.
