Bandaranaike Academy students learn parliamentary procedure
View(s):A programme to raise awareness on parliamentary procedures for the students of the Bandaranaike Academy for Leadership and Public Policy was held on Thursday at parliament.
The programme was conducted with the resource contribution of the Chief of Staff and Deputy Secretary General of Parliament Chaminda Kularatne, Assistant Secretary General Hansa Abeyratne, and the Director (Legislative Services) and Acting Director (Communication) M Jayalath Perera.
During the session, the resource panel elaborated on the establishment of committees, the appointment of members, and the functioning of committees, the duties of parliament until the passing of an appropriation bill, the process followed until a bill becomes an act, the standing orders of parliament, and the administrative structure of parliament.
This programme was held as an open discussion, allowing the students to raise questions, which were duly answered.
The students also participated in an observation tour of parliament.
This programme was organised by the Department of Communication of Parliament, with the participation of officials from the Bandaranaike Academy for Leadership and Public Policy.
