Youth Affairs Deputy Minister Eranga Gunasekara who has been named as a suspect in the case of unlawful entry into the Temple Trees during the 2022 Aragalaya protest has been ordered to appear at the Colombo Fort Magistrates court on September 24.
The order was issued when the case was taken up before Magistrate Nilupuli Lankapura.
Mr. Gunasekara was not present in courts when the case was taken up last week and his lawyers informed courts that he was not well. The Magistrate ordered to submit a medical certificate.
The Magistrate also ordered that four other suspects be arrested and produced in courts and that notice be issued on those who signed to obtain bail.
On the same date the case of persons unlawfully entering the private residence of former President Ranil Wickremesinghe was taken up in the same court.
They have been charged for entering the premises, setting fire to the place and obstructing the fire brigade duties.
The Sunday Times last week inadvertently reported that Mr. Gunasekara was named as a suspect in the case of entry into Mr. Wickremesinghe’s
residence.
