Tomorrow, Colombo’s brief encounter with disappearing shadow
View(s):Get ready for a unique celestial event tomorrow, Monday April 7, precisely at 12.12 p.m,. when the Sun’s alignment will cause shadows to briefly disappear in Colombo, according to science writer and astronomer Anura C. Perera.
This will occur as the sun will be directly overhead in Colombo, a biannual celestial event.
In January, Sri Lanka experienced intense sunlight when the Earth was closest to the Sun.
According to Mr. Perera this event is part of a 10-day period, April 5 to 15 where the sun moves directly overhead across Sri Lanka, starting from Dondrahead and ending in Point Pedro.
Colombo’s typical temperature of around 28 °C to 30 °C, will increase to 34 °C to 36 °C in the first week of April.
Warning against the rise in temperature Mr. Perera advised taking precautionary measures such as drinking plenty of water and avoiding the sunlight as much as possible.
