US tarrif issue: India says will stand by SL
View(s):Indian Premier Narendra Modi assured President Anura Kumara Dissanayake during bilateral discussions yesterday that India will stand by to assist Sri Lanka as it deals with the impact of the imposition of a 44 per cent reciprocal tariff on Sri Lankan exports to the United States (US).
“Obviously, it is something that impacted everybody. Sri Lanka also has to deal with the issue. President Dissanayake emphasised the importance in this regard given these kinds of geo-economic developments that have a certain impact on Sri Lanka, especially given the economic situation now and the economic passage Sri Lanka is passing through,” Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said yesterday at a press briefing.
He said President Dissanayake stressed the importance of further strengthening the relationship between India and Sri Lanka to deal with the fallout of these developments as well.
