Sri Lanka’s junior golf star, Reshan Algama, claimed a thrilling victory at the 2025 Robert Rock Junior Masters Golf Tournament, concluded at the Al Hamra Golf Club, Ras Al Khaimah, in the United Arab Emirates. The 17-year-old’s remarkable win secured him his maiden international title, capping off a nail-biting final day of competition.
Algama, who finished regulation play tied at two over par (218), displayed nerves of steel in a dramatic three-way playoff. Despite a modest start to the tournament, where he finished the first day tied at sixth, Algama put together a string of impressive rounds (74, 72, and 72) to position himself for the thrilling conclusion.
On the final hole of regulation play, Algama made a clutch birdie putt to force the playoff, joining Adrian Larsson from the Els Golf Club, UAE and Suan Yang from Namseol Country Club, South Korea. Returning to the 18th hole for the playoff, Algama made a perfectly judged chip shot and confidently sank the birdie putt to secure the win. Both Larsson and Yang were unable to match the performance, settling for par.

This victory not only marks a historic achievement for Algama but also earned him an exclusive invitation to the prestigious 2025 Clutch Pro Tour Final, set to take place at the Al Zorah Golf and Yacht Club in Ajman, UAE, from October 14 to 16. The invitation provides Algama with a valuable opportunity to showcase his skills on the professional golf circuit.
“This victory is a stepping stone for me towards greater international success,” Algama said after the win, a sentiment that highlight his growing confidence as a competitive golfer on the international course.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s top female golfer, Kaya Daluwatte, also delivered an impressive performance, finishing among the top three in the Girls’ Under-21 category. Daluwatte, who started the tournament in fifth place after the first round, displayed remarkable consistency throughout the competition. With rounds of 75, 74, and 77, the 16-year-old climbed the leaderboard to finish with a total gross score of 226.
India’s Ananyaa Sood, currently based in the UAE, took the top honours in the Girls Under-21 category, but Daluwatte’s performance remained a highlight for Sri Lanka, solidifying her position as one of the region’s top emerging talents.
