Left-arm spinner Viran Chamuditha shone with a five wicket haul for St. Servatius College against traditional rivals St. Thomas’ College on day two of the 125th Battle of the Blues big match played at the Uyanwatta Stadium in Matara.

After St. Servatius posted 169 runs in their first innings before rain stopped play on day one, Chamuditha stepped onto the pitch with determination on the second day. His masterful spin bowling proved too much for St. Thomas’ batsmen to handle. With precise flight and deception, Chamuditha claimed five crucial wickets while conceding just 33 runs in his 14.5 overs.

Support for Chamuditha came from Chalana Indusha and Samira Gimhan, who shared four wickets between them. Their combined bowling effort restricted St. Thomas’ to a mere 124 runs, giving St. Servatius a valuable lead of 45 runs in the first-innings.

Only Pesandu Sanjan offered significant resistance for St. Thomas’ with a fighting knock of 46 runs before falling to P. Madusanka. Abdul Majid contributed 19 runs while Ochintha Chamika managed 30, but the remaining batsmen crumbled under the relentless pressure from the St. Servatius bowling attack.

Having gained the advantage, St. Servatius built on their lead in the second innings. By stumps on day two, they had reached 153-4, extending their overall lead to 198 runs. Vishwa Supun anchored the innings with an unbeaten 63, while Raveen Kavintha provided solid support with 29 not out.

Despite Pesandu Sanjan’s gallant effort with the ball, claiming three wickets for St. Thomas’, the day belonged to Chamuditha and St. Servatius. The match ends today.
