Kandy dominate Dambulla
Resuming at 207-4 overnight, Dambulla’s middle order showed resilience with captain Dhananjaya de Silva completing a stylish century, contributing 108 before falling to Ashain Daniel. Dasun Shanaka provided valuable support with a brisk 63, while Vishad Randika added 40 as Dambulla reached 340 all out, trailing Kandy’s first innings total by 113 runs.
Ashian Daniel was the pick of Kandy’s bowlers, finishing with impressive figures of 4-109, while Shiran Fernando claimed 3-42 in a disciplined spell of seam bowling. Kandy’s second innings began cautiously as Akila Dananjaya made early inroads, reducing them to 63-3. Janishka Perera (27) and Sohan de Livera (32) steadied the innings before Akila Dananjaya struck again, finishing the day with 4-73.
The highlight of Kandy’s innings was Pawantha Weerasinghe’s unbeaten 74, a composed knock featuring five boundaries and a six. He found able support in Ravindu Fernando (24 not out) as the pair added an unbroken 59 for the sixth wicket.
